Organisations across Dubai are coming up with creative ways to support relief efforts in Lebanon, after two explosions in Beirut on Tuesday August 4 killed more than 220 people and injured more than 7,000.
An estimated 300,000 people are homeless, and in collaboration with charity organisations, restaurants, delivery services and more are showing their support.
From ordering in to cooking classes, here are more ways show your love for Lebanon in Dubai this week.
The independent cinema is hosting special screenings this week with 100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales going to the Lebanese Red Cross. The screenings will be on Friday August 14 and Saturday August 15. On Friday August 14, West Beirut (1998), directed by Ziad Doueiri will be shown, while on Saturday August 15 the film will be Where Do We Go Now (2011) directed by Nadine Labaki.

There will be a special dinner with a curated menu from chef Bethany Kehdy, Greg Malouf, Rita Soueidan, Mohamed Orfali and Ruby Chaer at Publique next week. The dinner will take place on Wednesday August 19 at the ski chalet-themed restaurant at Souk Madinat Jumeirah. It will be Dhs385 per person for four courses, and all proceeds will be donated to the Lebanese Red Cross. “I’m delighted to join hands with my fellow Lebanese chefs, Greg Maalouf, Rita Soueidan, Mohamed Orfali, Ruby Chaer to host a charity dinner here in Dubai for our beloved Beirut,” said chef Kehdy. “It’s important for all of us to come together during this time of crisis and help the people of Lebanon in any way we can. Home-grown food delivery platform GoFood is donating 100 percent of all sales made on Friday August 14 to the Emirates Red Crescent Lebanon Initiative. The popular French restaurant in Jumeirah Emirates Towers is hosting a special dinner on Monday August 17 to support relief efforts. The set menu and drinks package will be Dhs600 per person, with all proceeds going to support Lebanon. The event is in partnership with Red Crescent. Dishes on the menu include tuna ceviche, crispy calamari, quinoa and kale salad, apple goiji berries and aged Parmesan, risotto with leeks and black truffle, lemongrass baby chicken, cherry tomato salad, roasted Scottish salmon, vanilla crème brûlée and profiteroles.

The cooking studio in Depachika Food Hall is helping to raise funds through cooking classes and sales from its Eazy Freezy frozen food line. The cooking studio on Nakheel Mall on Palm Jumeirah has two classes this week and proceeds will be given to Lebanese NGOs. The classes including Take Me To Tulum on Wednesday August 12 from 7pm until 9pm and Red Velvet Mania with Sugarmoo on Friday August 14 from 11am until 1pm. The first class will including making sea bass ceviche, soft corn tortillas, grilled shrimp, grilled tomato salsa and Mexican corn. The second will be the assembly of the Red Velvet Oreo Crunch Cake and baking Red Velvet Oreo cookies.

For those affected in the UAE
The wellness centre in JLT is offering two free support services to those affected by the situation in Beirut. The centre’s psychologists will be donating their time to offer free 30-minute sessions to both adults and children over the next two weeks. They will be offering free individual wellbeing checks in English, Arabic and French, as well as free group sessions in English and Arabic.
