Sharjah Beach Library launches at Khor Fakkan

There’s nothing better than lazing around on the beach and reading a book in between dips in the sea.

And now people who forget their novels at home will get the chance to enjoy the written word at Khor Fakkan thanks to the Sharjah Beach Library initiative.

Organised by the Sharjah World Book Capital Office in cooperation with Knowledge without Borders, you can now borrow books from displays installed across the beach.

As part of the year-long celebrations of Sharjah’s UNESCO World Book Capital 2019 title, there will also be entertainment and cultural events until April next year.

Knowledge without Borders’ director Mariam Al Hammadi said, “The library at Khor Fakkan offers many books covering a variety of topics and caters to different age groups and interests.

“We want this project to be remembered by Sharjah’s residents and visitors as one that not only gives them an insight into the cultural vision of the emirate but also broadens their horizons and expands knowledge through reading.”

The Sharjah Beach Library initiative has been introduced through a number of phases, with displays installed at Al Khan beach, Al Khan 2 and the Sharjah Ladies Club earlier this year.

It is hoped the initiative will nurture a culture of reading and raise community awareness about its importance.
