UAE’s Ministry of Health uses self-driving vehicle to distribute masks in Sharjah

The Ministry of Health is using a self-driving vehicle to distribute masks, gloves and sanitisers in Sharjah.

The vehicle provides personal protective equipment to residents and workers of a residential complex.

It used the latest artificial intelligence technologies and 5G technology, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said in a statement.

Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, assistant under-secretary for public health policy and the Licensing Sector in the ministry, said, “Deploying the autonomous shuttle is a step in the right direction towards strengthening the prevention and control of COVID-19 as it significantly reduces social contact while at the same time saves more time and effort.

“AI technologies are very useful during these challenges’ times. Not only will they help protect the medical cadres against the virus, but they will also save their time, which can be harnessed to treat patients.”

The project is the latest in a series of awareness campaigns launched by the ministry to encourage the public to follow various precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
